How a baby pool works
A guessing game for the months before the birth. You set it up once, everyone plays from one link, and the scoring is done for you.
Create a poolFrom setup to results
-
1
Create the pool
Add the parents’ names and the due date, pick the questions and a colour. No account is needed to start; add your email when you want to keep it.
-
2
Share the link
Send it to the family group chat, post it, or print the poster with its QR code for the table. Relatives abroad can play as easily as the ones next door.
-
3
Everyone guesses
Guests answer the questions you chose, leave a message for the baby if they like, and get an email with a link to change their guess later.
-
4
The baby arrives
Enter the real details. Everyone is scored at once, the leaderboard is ready, and you decide when to share it.
What your guests see
One page with your names, the due date and a single button. A guess takes about a minute on a phone, with no app and no sign-up.
Weight can be given in grams or in pounds and ounces, so the grandparents at home and the cousins abroad can both answer the way they are used to.
What people can guess
Turn on only the questions that suit you. The points show what each one is worth.
- Gender 20 pts
- Birth date 50 pts
- Birth time 25 pts
- Weight 40 pts
- Length 25 pts
- Name 20 pts
How scoring works
Every guess earns points for how close it came, not only for being exactly right.
- Birth date: 50 points for the exact day, 35 for one day off, 25 for two, 15 for three, and 5 for anything within a week.
- Weight: 40 points within 50 g, then 30, 20 and 10 as the gap grows to half a kilo.
- Birth time and length work the same way, in minutes and centimetres.
- Gender and the other one-answer questions score only for an exact match; a name one letter off still earns half.
On top of that, the closest guess on the date, time, weight and length earns a small bonus; if two people are equally close, both get it. A question with no answer, say because you keep the weight private, counts for nobody, so nobody loses points over it.
When two people finish level, whoever was closer overall comes first, then whoever guessed earlier.
Results everyone understands
Everyone can see their own points on every question, so it is obvious why someone came second rather than first.
With Plus, everyone who played gets their own result by email, with a link to the full leaderboard.
