Your baby this week

  • The skin is covered in vernix, a white creamy layer that protects it in the amniotic fluid.
  • The parts of the brain for smell, taste, hearing, sight and touch are developing.
  • If it is a girl, her ovaries already hold millions of eggs.

Your body this week

  • The baby’s movements may feel like flutters or bubbles.
  • Darker patches may appear on your face; they usually fade after the birth.
  • Pains at the sides of your tummy from stretching ligaments may carry on.
